The San Antonio-based infrastructure builder named Travis Mross as president, according to a Tuesday announcement. Mross, who joined the company as an intern in 2000, previously served as executive vice president.

In his new role, Mross will focus on client service and predictable delivery across sectors that include transportation, water, underground utility and civil sitework operations, per the announcement. Some of his priorities will include a focus on strategic growth, operational excellence and business consistency.

Zachry Construction, established in 1924, specializes in underground utilities, water infrastructure, civil sitework and heavy/highway construction. Mross’ promotion to president comes on the heels of burgeoning growth across transportation, water and civil infrastructure.

Indeed, the firm called out its recent acquisition of Crescent Constructors, a move that bolstered the builder’s focus on water projects, as part of that growing mindset.

Zachry  has competition in the space — contractors that range from private builders to large public contractors including Jacobs and Ferrovial are all dialing into the opportunity that water infrastructure presents to the construction industry. Most recently, Carollo Engineers won a construction manager post on the first water purification and reuse project in Nevada.

The federal government has also taken notice. The Department of the Interior in March announced that it would invest $889 million in water infrastructure projects across six Western states: California, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

“As demand for critical infrastructure continues to grow, our job is to bring consistency, discipline, and a high standard of execution to every project,” Mross said in the news release. “That focus will continue to guide how we serve clients and grow the business.”
