QUINCY (WGEM) – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the initial phase of repairs on Quincy’s Memorial Bridge are scheduled to be completed this week.
IDOT reported traffic will resume on the bridge starting on Saturday, March 14.
They said during this phase, workers reinforced expansion joints that had led to deck failures in February. They said when functioning normally, the expansion joint allows the surface of the bridge deck to expand and contract.
According to IDOT, they will begin additional repairs to reinforce all remaining expansion joints in April, which will take three months.
During that phase, the bridge will be limited to one lane traffic.
IDOT is advising the public to expect delays and allow extra time on the bridge when the April repairs begin.
