WEST MICHIGAN – While the winter snow has orange cone season far from most Michiganders’ minds, some upcoming construction zones this year in the Grand Rapids area will result in months-long closures for motorists.
One of the most significant projects is the approximately $70 million rebuild of U.S. 131 in Byron Township. The Michigan Department of Transportation project will rebuild U.S. 131 from 76th Street to 100th Street. The funds are part of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s initiative to rebuild highways and bridges that are critical to the state’s economy and carry the most traffic.

Although the Kent County Road Commission and MDOT will perform preventative work on several more roads this year, including smaller projects like potholes and utility work, there will also be plenty of significant road work projects to plan your commute around.
