Laurens, South Carolina – Prisma Health will expand its orthopedics services in Laurens County – including the addition of freestanding offices for its orthopedics practice and supporting outpatient therapies – as part of an approximately $2 million expansion project. The initiative will pave the way for additional physicians, team members and future services at the expanded footprint.
Prisma Health Orthopedics-Laurens will move from its current 2,261-square-foot location in a medical office building on the Laurens County Hospital campus to a nearby 7,332-square-foot building previously owned by Palmetto Bone and Joint in Clinton. Physical, occupational and speech therapy will shift from space inside the hospital to a 7,456-square-foot building previously owned by Palmetto Bone and Joint and leased to Physicians Health and Rehabilitation.
Prisma closed on the purchase of the two buildings this week, more than doubling Prisma’s orthopedics footprint in Laurens County. The buildings are adjacent to each other on a nearly four-acre tract just off Highway 76 E. near Prisma’s Laurens campus.
“This is a testament to Prisma Health’s commitment to further expand state-of-the-art orthopedic care in Laurens County, which already includes diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up therapies,” said Justin Benfield, CEO over the Laurens County Hospital. “By providing a full range of orthopedic care right here in Laurens County, we can help our community members get outstanding care – from first visit to full recovery – without having to travel out of the county.”
Prisma’s Orthopedics-Laurens and the therapy services are slated to move into the upfitted buildings early next year with no lapses in current services. The orthopedics practice includes two orthopedic surgeons, four sports medicine physicians and additional specially trained providers.
“We are excited to expand our orthopedic clinic to provide comprehensive sports medicine and orthopedic care to the communities in Laurens County,” said Dr. Christina Gutta, a sports medicine physician at the practice. She is also team physician for the sports teams at Presbyterian College in Clinton.
