KAMLOOPS — The Overlanders Bridge project in Kamloops is nearing completion, with the bridge deck section of the project wrapping up this weekend.

City of Kamloops Infrastructure Delivery Manager Matt Kachel said Friday (Oct. 3) the project will not only finish slightly ahead of schedule, but also approximately $50,000 under budget.

Four-lane traffic is expected to return to the bridge in the next few days ahead of the next phase of the project, which will take place on the south end off ramps. That will mean closing it for five days late next week and over the long weekend, and reducing traffic to three lanes.

“The great news is that the main work on the bridge deck is done,” said Kachel. “But we are going to work our way into the south off-ramp toward Mission Flats. Unfortunately, there is only one lane there so we are going to have to close that and detour it. But the good news about that is we don’t have concrete work and we don’t have membrane work, so we are able to do that night work that everybody was asking for and run a 24-hour shift. We took our schedule, it was going to be 10 days of a regular shift, but we are able to crunch it down into five running two shifts, 24 hours to get it done quickly.”
