Large Parking Deck Nearly Done At Southington Trucking Company

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A significant part of a local trucking company’s major expansion is nearly complete, according to the company behind construction.

A. Duie Pyle, Inc., located at 87 Aircraft Road, is expanding its large facility and building a new, two-story parking deck for 212 vehicles.

A. Duie Pyle is a West Chester, Pa., company with facilities throughout the northeast.

According to project plans, Pyle would expand its current building by 10,140 square feet, build a new 16,477 maintenance building, and build a new parking deck.

The project, expected to be done by December 2025, will be broken up into four phases.

According to Cleveland, Ohio-based Geis Companies, the three-level parking deck is nearly complete, with the work expected to be done later this spring.

Last month, Geis released an overhead image of the site and announced it will provide 73,000 square feet of parking space, with enough deck height at ground level to accommodate interstate semi-trucks.

And, given New England’s penchant for nasty winters, Geis officials said the parking structure will easily combat Old Man Winter’s

“The project’s robust design will ensure the structure will withstand decades of Nor’easters’” said Kevin Watts, vice president of Geis Construction. “We are constantly upgrading the materials and methods of which we work and this is another example of bringing state-of-the-art design to our clients.”

According to Geis, the structure will feature decks constructed with a waterproofing hycrete-concrete admixture and epoxy-coated Rebar.

To keep spaces accessible during winter storms, Geis is installing snow melts on the ramps and a snow shute on the top deck.

Geis is building the parking deck on the former site of the Southington Service Center at the intersection of Airport and Newell roads.

The Queen Street interchange with Interstate 84 is less than a mile away.

In April 2023, the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved permits and plans for the trucking company’s expansion.
