COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The City of Columbia says one of its parking decks will be closed for repairs starting in November.
The city said Monday that public and visitor parking at the Lady Street Parking Deck will close for nearly 12 weeks as crews repair concrete spalls, delamination and exposed reinforcement. Officials said work will also include addressing cracks on concrete surfaces, replacing deteriorated joint sealant and installing new expansion joints.
No specific date was provided for when the closure will begin.
The city also said it has reached out to those with reserved parking at the deck and monthly parking arrangements will be modified.
“These updates are designed to improve safety, prolong the life of the parking decks, and help maintain an efficient and accessible parking experience for the public,” city officials said in an announcement.
The scheduled work is part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan, described as an investment to revitalize and maintain public parking across Columbia.
“The City of Columbia’s Parking Revitalization Plan is a proactive effort to extend the life of vital downtown infrastructure and ensure a safe, modern parking experience. By addressing issues before they become critical, the City is investing in public safety, saving long-term costs, and supporting the ongoing vibrancy of downtown Columbia,” city officials said.
Work is also set to take place at the decks on Taylor Street, Arsenal Hill and Sumter Street – but no dates for any of those projects have been announced.
