Award: Campus improvements
Value: $3.3 billion in active projects (part of $15.1 billion program)
Location: Los Angeles
Clients: Los Angeles Community College District

The Los Angeles Community College District is handing Jacobs a hefty assignment on a number of higher education campuses throughout the city.

The agency tapped Jacobs to lead its $15.1 billion BuildLACCD Bond Program under a new five-year contract, according to a Tuesday news release. The award extends the partnership between the Dallas-based contractor and LACCD that has been in place for seven years, covering modernization projects across nine campuses in the region.

The current phase includes $3.3 billion in active construction, such as housing, sustainability, IT modernization and capital improvements, according to the release.

Since 2018, the program has reached substantial completion on nearly 200 projects and kicked off 475 new construction and modernization efforts. That marks some of the highest year-over-year construction volumes in district history, according to the release.

The BuildLACCD initiative aims to upgrade the academic infrastructure for the nine colleges in the area. Overall, the LACCD covers 882 square miles and serves about 250,000 students annually.

The education win is a stand out from other parts of Jacobs’ business. CEO Bob Pragada recently cited strong demand across advanced facilities and the firm’s consulting services, according to remarks during the company’s most recent third quarter earnings call. He added he expects strong performance to repeat in the fourth quarter despite effects from political uncertainty on the overall construction sector.
