DC Manjunath Bhajantri directed the officials of the Health Department to visit villages and raise awareness among the people so that they ensure that stale and stagnant water do not accumulate in old containers, tires and other sources of accumulation, and to carry out anti-larvae measures in affected and potential areas.”
Dengue and Chikungunya are transmitted through bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes. Ignoring high fever, joint and muscle pain could lead to Dengue or Chikungunya. If these symptoms appeared, immediate medical attention was to be sought.
Health department staffs have been directed to inform urban and rural residents of taking necessary measures to prevent mosquito breeding around homes and nearby areas.
Preventive measures: 1) Dengue and Chikungunya-spreading Aedes mosquitoes thrive in clean water. Cover containers, water tanks and other vessels to prevent their growth. Maintain cleanliness around the house. 2) Sleep under mosquito nets or in screened areas. Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day, so wear full clothing to cover the body. 3) There is no specific medication for treating dengue or Chikungunya fever. If symptoms of Dengue or Chikungunya are observed, seek immediate medical help.
Prevention against mosquitoes: 1) Install mesh screens on windows and doors. 2) Avoid keeping containers, tires, etc., that cannot hold water in or around the house, as these can collect rainwater and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
What Not to Do: 1) Do not keep unnecessary or rejected containers, tires, etc., around the house or on the rooftop, as they can collect rainwater and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. 2) Do not ignore fever symptoms. 3) Do not keep windows and doors without screens open during the evening and morning hours, as mosquitoes are more active during these times.
