Less than a year after a multi-week project on the I-495 bridges over Route 13, an expansion joint on one of the spans has failed requiring emergency repairs.
WDEL was on hand as crews made a temporary fix to the expansion joint in the center lane on the southbound side of the three lane highway in Minquadale on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.
Those repairs were completed in just a few hours but the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) says more extensive work will be required, which will likely be done during overnight hours in the coming week.
During the late summer and early fall of 2016, DelDOT contracted with Eastern Highway Specialists on a project to remove and replace the bridge approaches, replace the bridge expansion joints, and to do concrete patching of the bridge decks.
A DelDOT official says they’ll be following up with the contractor concerning the original work.
