For the first time in nine years, Adolfson & Peterson will have a new CEO.

Jeff Hansen, CEO of the Minneapolis-based builder, will retire effective June 1 and Chief Operating Officer Brad Hendrickson will take his place, according to a Wednesday news release. Under Hansen’s leadership since 2017, the company has expanded its market presence in locations such as Bismarck, North Dakota and achieved significant growth milestones in Central Texas.
Hendrickson joined the firm as president of its Midwest region in 2021 after 31 years at PCL Construction and was elevated to the COO position last March. He started his career as a field engineer before eventually making his way up to AP’s C-suite. He will continue to serve as COO through the transition period.
The leadership shift comes as the company closes what it projects to be a strong fiscal year in February. The firm predicted it will pass $1.5 billion in total revenue with 87% of backlog secured for next fiscal year. It also grew its workforce by 25% during the year.
Going forward, AP’s strategy will remain unchanged, Hendrickson told Construction Dive via email.
“We will prioritize growth in the markets and sectors where we have deep expertise, strong client relationships, and a proven track record,” Hendrickson said. “That includes secure facilities, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, and municipal work across all regions.”
Other contractors are also executing on succession plans to begin 2026. Brentwood, Tennessee-based Bell Construction, for example, added 4 new owners to its ownership team. Meanwhile, Portland, Oregon-based Fortis Construction named Andrea Weisheimer as its new president.
