COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The City of Columbia Parking Services announced Monday that construction would begin on the Lady Street Parking Deck next year.
Structural repairs will begin in January 2026 as part of phase one of the city’s capital improvement plan, created to repair and enhance various city-owned parking garages.
Repairs that are scheduled for the Lady Street parking deck address concrete surface cracks, joint sealant that has deteriorated, repairs needed for concrete stalls and exposed reinforcement, as well as the installation of new expansion joints.
The city said in a statement that new lighting and security cameras will also be installed as part of the repairs.
The construction will take place for approximately 12 weeks, and monthly parking arrangements will be modified.
The city said that its parking services department has already reached out to those who have reserved spots in the Lady Street parking garage.
Other parking garages that will be addressed during phase one are Taylor Street, Sumter Street and Arsenal Hill.
According to the city, partial use will be available for the three mentioned above.
In a statement, the city said that the repairs were being done to increase the parking deck’s life and to improve safety.
“These updates are designed to improve safety, prolong the life of the parking decks, and help maintain an efficient and accessible parking experience for the public,” it said.
Renovations to the above parking decks will take place one at a time to minimize potential disruptions to traffic and available parking for citizens and tourists.
Signs are also expected to be posted before and during construction to remind parking garage users of what is going on and to help direct them to nearby parking.
Planning for the renovations began after an increase in the city’s parking rate was approved by the council in December 2024 and went into effect in March 2025.
