Steel prices are on an average decline since their pandemic-era uptick.
Gordian reports that structural steel prices in the U.S. currently average $2,477.25 per ton (October 2025), down 6.63 % from Q3 and 4.7 % year-over-year. Earlier in 2025 the trend showed a slight rebound: July’s average was $2,653.03 per ton (up 2.06 % from Q2), while in April the price rose 3.15 % from Q1. Despite these upticks, annual prices remain well below last year’s. After a dramatic escalation during the global pandemic, prices have stabilized and are now trending downward or flat.
- October 2025 structural steel cost: $2,477 per ton, down 6.6 % from the previous quarter
- Year-over-year decline: 4.7 % versus October 2024
- July 2025 marked the first quarterly increase in over a year (2.06 %)
- April 2025 saw a 3.15 % rise from Q1, but annual decline remains 10.5 %
- Earlier years saw steep increases (e.g., +43 % from Q1 2020 to Q1 2021), but volatility has now eased
