AIA Furthers Climate Efforts During Climate Week NYC

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) continues to lead on climate action within the built environment through industry partner collaboration and successfully meeting building decarbonization and materials specification goals. AIA is showcasing these successes at the following key events this month:

AIA is participating in Climate Week NYC, a global gathering of private industry, public sector, and NGOs to promote cross-collaboration of climate action.

AIA will be convening a mainstage presentation during New York Climate Week at the Nest Climate Campus. The public is invited to watch this dynamic conversation between AIA 2026 President-Elect/2027 President Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, and Congressman Dave Min (CA-47) on Wednesday, September 24, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The session, “Designing Resilience: Shaping Communities through Policy & the Built Environment,” will focus on the role architects and policymakers have in shaping a zero-carbon, resilient, and equitable built environment through leadership that helps ensure that clients can make the best choices easily.

AIA will publish the 2030 Commitment By the Numbers (Reporting Year 2024) annual report on September 24.
The 2030 Commitment is a global architecture and building industry initiative, aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral future. More than 460 signatory firms have reported nearly 42,000 projects culminating in approximately 43 billion gross square feet. 2024’s reported overall predicted energy usage intensity reduction is 56%, the largest reduction  in the history of the Commitment. Projects reporting embodied carbon nearly tripled year over year. Net zero projects have jumped to 430, an increase of 24% since 2024. In addition to the publication of the 2024 Commitment data in this report, AIA is renewing its partnership with Architecture 2030 in anticipation of refreshing the Commitment as we approach the year 2030.
The report will be launched at a public session at New York Climate Week on Thursday, September 25, at the AIA New York Center for Architecture.
