A worker was seriously injured in a violent assault near the old Patto bridge in Panaji on Monday night following a heated argument. The incident took place around 8 pm when Dinesh, who survives by collecting plastic bottles, had an altercation with Amankumar. The confrontation soon turned violent, with Amankumar allegedly striking Dinesh with a stick, causing severe head injuries and heavy bleeding. After the attack, the accused remained at the scene and was restrained by local residents until Panaji police reached the spot and placed him under custody. An ambulance was summoned, and the injured man was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. During interrogation, Amankumar claimed he was earlier assaulted by a group of five people and acted in retaliation. Police have launched a detailed probe to establish the exact sequence of events.
