The joint replacement project costs $6.9 million and is expected to be completed by April 2026.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More lanes of the Kennedy Bridge between Louisville and southern Indiana will be closed soon during a major, multi-million-dollar construction project.
Currently, the left lane and left shoulder of the bridge, which carries I-65 South over the Ohio River, are closed. Additional lane closures are expected as part of preliminary work for the project.
The full $6.9 million construction project is scheduled to begin in mid-July. Crews will replace the bridge’s expansion joints which were damaged several months ago.
Earlier this year, the left three lanes were closed in February as a necessary safety precaution due to damaged expansion joints on the Indiana approach. During preliminary work on the long-planned expansion joint replacement project, contractors were able to make temporary repairs to the damaged joint, and reopened the left three lanes in early April.
KYTC officials estimate the project will be completed by April 2026.
