LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The ramp from I-65 South to I-64 West on the Kennedy Bridge will be closed a little longer.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the extended closure is due to weather-related delays and additional repairs.
The ramp closure began Nov. 18 and is part of the bridge expansion joint replacement project. KYTC says the closure will remain in place through January 2026.
The closure supports ongoing work on the southernmost expansion joint on the right side of the bridge.
In addition to the closure, the right three lanes and right shoulder of the Kennedy Bridge remain closed.
KYTC says after the closure, contract crews will move to the next phase of the expansion joint replacement project in the left three lanes. They will be closed to begin replacing expansion joints on that side of the bridge. Traffic shifts have not been announced.
Overall, the expansion joints are critical components of a bridge deck, allowing the structure to safely expand and contract with temperature changes. It also prevents cracking and preserves the Kennedy’s long-term structural integrity.
